Some printers can now be purchased for a few hundred dollars or even less from some online retailers. This accessibility allows 3D printing to be more useful in various industries.
Abstract. Three-dimensional (3D) printing technologies are part of additive manufacturing processes and are used to manufacture a 3D physical model from a digital computer-aided design model as per the required shape and size. These technologies are now used for advanced radiology applications by providing all information through 3D physical model.
Owing to the portable, compact and user-friendly nature of 3D printers, as well as the ability for 3D printing to manufacture medicines on demand, the technology could be easily integrated into healthcare settings, including hospital wards, in-patient pharmacies, specialist clinics and community pharmacies [15,34,35] .
As a result, the size of the industry around 3D printing is growing rapidly, which is expected to have an impact in socio-economic terms, especially in the framework of the fourth industrial revolution . Table 1 shows a proposal by the authors for the classification and definitions of 3D printing applications in healthcare.
